White PaperCloud Data Platforms in ManufacturingHardly any other area produces new hype and buzzwords as reliably as the digital transformation of industry. However, two particular terms have long since outgrown the buzzword stage, are no longer dependent on the hype surrounding them and are already shaping everyday working life in industrial companies. We are talking about “data platforms” and “cloud”. While most people can now relate to the term cloud computing, the situation is sometimes different when it comes to data platforms. Mechanical engineering companies in particular are becoming increasingly data-driven and need to be able to rely on the right platform for everything from storage to analysis. And having a cloud solution does not mean that it can be used optimally. To do this, it is important to comply with basic requirements, which the white paper addresses in detail. The topic of sustainability is currently an additional challenge that the mechanical engineering industry has to face with ESG reports, among other things. A specific use case is discussed in the white paper. Above all, however, it is crucial for users to set up their cloud data platform correctly. After all, neither resources nor nerves should be wasted here. The right approach to prevent this from happening is discussed in detail.October 16, 2024

StudyCloud Native 2022 StudyDespite the lack of consent around how to define it, Cloud Native is being increasingly adopted by German companies, and the consequences for those left behind will be dire: in this study sponsored by IONOS by 1&1, we analyzed the answers of 250 decision-makers in the DACH area to give you the best recommendations on how to navigate Cloud Native adoption, and to provide a definitive definition of it. The Present As of 2022, companies have finally understood the importance of IT investments, and are increasing the budgets accordingly. In this context, large companies remain the early adopters and as such are seeing the advantages of making an early, cloud-related decision. The Future Holding back companies from fulfilling their Cloud potential are concerns regarding compliance, budgeting, and level of maturity within the company culture. The counterbalance to this, however, is that decision-makers also consider Cloud Native as a driver for agility and an enabler of AI and ML. Cloud Native is thus seen as more of an opportunity, and the 43% of decision-makers that want to expand it in their company attest to that. For the majority of companies, Cloud Native is an enabler of digital business models. Recommendations Along with Cloud Native, Open-Source software and the Public Cloud are gaining popularity – and along with them, so are also the regional Cloud providers in Europe. Download now this study to find out how small and big companies can successfully navigate through Cloud Native transformation, and how much of an impact it all is having in the DACH area.July 28, 2022

White PaperNewSpace, Old WaysOne of the most technologically advanced and admired sectors of today’s economy may not be as digital as you think. Why? Because digitalization is not just about technologies. It is a process that, to succeed, requires a paradigm shift in the mindsets of companies and their management. Hardware vs Software In Traditional Space, hardware was the Holy Grail – the fundamental prerequisite for success: one mistake here could cost millions in terms of dollars, as well as invaluable lives. Here, one hardware failure meant also potential political humiliation. With NewSpace and the commercial age of space, the tables turned. As hardware reaches state-of-the-art levels, becoming more and more of a commodity, software should be the fuel propelling the whole industry into the future… but it isn’t happening. Why? Culture, mindset, development A significant portion of the NewSpace landscape is now entering a twilight zone where budget is still devoted to hardware and operations, and little is devoted to effective, efficient and agile IT teams and leaderships. In our opinion, this hampers the chances of success for many NewSpace startups, and it may also be an early sign of hard times ahead, because the top performers in the industry did get the memo: they rely and invest on software. This issue is the demarcation line separating startups, established companies and top-dogs of the industry, and it stems from an “old school” mindset, a consolidated and hardware-heavy culture, and from NewSpace being still young. The whitepaper This whitepaper from Cloudflight Research, written by Research Coordinator Sebastian D. P. Hidalgo with extensive input from our Aerospace industry leaders, is written for investors, investment funds, software providers and C-Level individuals in the NewSpace sector. It will provide you the reasons why digitalization in the industry is lagging, how it happened and, more importantly, how to solve it.May 18, 2022

ReportDigital maturity of Cloudflight customersThis report from Cloudflight Research examines the digital maturity of 17 companies using a digital maturity model. The dominant areas are: Digital transformation Hardly any development has shaped the economy and society in recent years as much as digitalization. It leads to a change in processes in companies and enables a variety of new business models. This development is strengthened by state-of-the-art technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud native applications, political developments such as the nationwide broadband expansion and sustainable energy production, and developments and crises in society such as the global COVID-19 pandemic. Maturity model The digital maturity model evaluates companies with regard to their progress in various areas of digitalization. The dimensions of culture, organization, technology, processes, and data are examined in more detail. The companies are assigned to different maturity levels after an assessment. The model enables a comprehensible assessment and the identification of potential for improvement. Increase The companies we studied have been able to noticeably increase their level of digital maturity in recent years. This enabled them to develop from “digital beginners” to “digital followers”. The greatest increases were achieved in the areas of IT infrastructure, process optimization, and improvement of the customer experience. Catalysts Specific activities such as the introduction of individual software solutions and general economic developments are decisive for increasing the level of digital maturity. They play at least as big a role; however, individual software solutions can make all the difference in digital maturity. In particular, new technologies in the area of IT infrastructure and the use of AI as well as the increase in customer experience are among the most important catalysts. Digitalization as an opportunity Digitalization is not only a challenge but also an opportunity. If companies want to remain competitive, they must continually develop and use the potential of digital change. Diversification, the development of new business models, and the increased use of new technologies offer more opportunities than ever before in almost all sectors.December 17, 2021

StudyThe Rise of Cloud NativeCloud Native has reached the next stage of evolution. What began a good 10-15 years ago with the first infrastructures and platform services is now an international and integral ecosystem for the IT & digitization of companies. In the DACH region, too, cloud native is increasingly becoming a driver and gamechanger in the context of infrastructure and application modernization as well as the basis for digital platform strategies. A good 40 percent of companies have already been able to gain practical experience with cloud native technologies such as Kubernetes and a DevOps concept. Overall, two-thirds of all companies already see that they will not be able to manage without Cloud Native as part of their IT strategy. It is almost certain that despite the limited experience with the new technologies, which are mostly driven from the open source environment of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) and the large hyperscalers Google, Amazon or Microsoft, Cloud Native will continue to grow. More and more applications are already being developed “cloud-native” today. This study, “The Rise of Cloud Native – DevOps, Kubernetes, and Open Source are Shaping the Future of Digital IT Operations,” examines the maturity, expectations, challenges and opportunities of cloud native in enterprise use. It compares the strategies of experienced companies with those of cloud native laggards and skeptics. Cultural, organizational and technological aspects play a major role. As part of the study, over 600 decision-makers were asked to what extent Cloud Native plays a role for them. The entire interview was conducted with a good 250 decision-makers in order to obtain an empirical basis for the forecast and further market development of Cloud Native in DACH. The study is available for you to download free of charge. We hope you enjoy reading it and look forward to suggestions, feedback and exchange!February 18, 2021
